Abstract

Sigismund Toduță’s Miorița Oratorio transforms the Romanian myth of the shepherd’s fate into a universal musical expression. Combining epic and lyrical elements, the 12-part structure explores themes of transhumance, destiny, and cosmic unity. Highlights are addressed the conductor’s essential role in balancing technical precision and spiritual depth. Toduță’s refined use of heterophony, symbolism, and choral complexity elevates the folk myth to a level of universal artistic significance — where, as the author concludes, “Where the word ends, Music begins.”
