PAGES FROM THE HISTORY OF THE LĂUTAR ART FROM THE REPUBLIC OF MOLDOVA: THE BALKANICA FOR ACCORDION BY PETRU BARANCIUC AND THE AFFINITY FOR BALKAN AND INTERNATIONAL MUSIC

Abstract

The article is dedicated to the artistic path of the lăutar accordionist Petru Baranciuc, who carried out a highlysuccessful musical activity between 1980-2000 in Moldova, but also abroad, in international bands. The artist’scontribution was essential for introducing the Basarabian lăutar art to Balkan and international music. His compositionBalkanica, which became very soon a hit, is a milestone in this sense. His example is conclusive in terms of continuityand development of lăutar`s traditions in contemporary music. The author highlighted the artistic processes and thierproblematic, from the perspective of different historical and socio-cultural contexts, from 1950 to the present days.
